Illustrative home charging assessment beside a closed wallbox

Considering home EV charger installation in London or elsewhere in the UK? Before comparing installers, it helps to understand the electrical work, charging speed and likely costs. Logic Charge offers independent research and guidance; we do not carry out electrical installations ourselves.

What does a home EV charger installation involve?

A qualified installer assesses the property, parking location, electrical supply and suitable route for the charging cable. They should establish whether additional electrical work, permission or network notification is necessary. A typical domestic wallbox is rated at 7kW, but real charging speed depends on the car, electrical supply and settings.

How much does EV charger installation cost in the UK?

There is no reliable universal installed price. The charger model, cable run, distance from the consumer unit, groundworks, supply upgrades and installer quotation all affect the total. Compare written quotes that clearly separate equipment, labour and additional works. Check current eligibility rules before assuming any government grant applies.

Choosing the right home charger

Start with your vehicle’s AC charging limit, off-street parking arrangement and electricity tariff. Consider smart scheduling, compatibility, warranty, cable configuration and how easily the unit can be serviced. A more powerful or more expensive charger is not automatically better for your home.

Questions to ask an EV charger installer

Ask who will perform the electrical work, what assessment is included, whether the quote covers any remedial work, what electrical certification is provided, and who handles relevant network notifications. Seek a suitably competent and insured installer.
